3D Architectural Floor Plans

It is easy to appreciate the advantages of interacting with 3d architectural floor plans in AR instead of two-dimensional blueprints that require a degree in architecture to decipher. Creating a scale 3d model of an entire floor plan allows for developers, salespersons, engineers and architects to better communicate how an entire building floor will look and function.


Unfortunately, the detail, quality and realism required to convincingly simulate the complexities of an entire floor plan are unattainable with current real-time graphics on mobile platforms (smartphones, tablets, head mounted displays etc..) 3d models used today for AR must be constructed using low resolution geometry and simple materials in order to run in real-time on mobile platforms. The consequence of this limitation is that 3d floor plan models in AR tend to be underwhelming, uninspiring and inaccurate as true-to-life facsimiles of the actual projects in development.
