Architectural Visualization in AR

If you have ever entered a real-estate sales office, you may have noticed scale models of the properties (buildings, apartments etc) being marketed. It is common practice in real-estate to help visualize and sell property using these physical scale models.


These models can run anywhere from several thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on their size and complexity! Besides the potentially high costs, there is another significant downside: The model can only be viewed in the realtor's office space.




Creating virtual, computer-generated scale models is the obvious solution to this problem. AR allows for displaying 3d architectural scale models in any location. A single digital model can be shared with an unlimited number of people via their mobile phones, regardless of their location.


However, creating a digital 'twin' of a building or structure has its challenges. Mobile devices are incapable of displaying intricate and realistic computer generated 3d models due to their limited processing power. This is especially true of complex architectural structures. Virtual architectural models will be ineffective as a marketing and sales tool if the quality is rudimentary & uninspiring.
